IESI is the only company in the Philippines equipped and experienced to conduct Geoelectric Leak Detection Surveys (LDS). LDS is used to detect and specifically locate leaks in already installed HDPE Liners. This method is suitable for use on bare as well as liquid covered liners and even allows surveying of liners already covered with sand, gravel or waste up to one meter thick. It is rapidly becoming the preferred Construction Quality Assurance methodology for the pre-service inspection of solid waste landfill liners worldwide.
In this system, a voltage is applied to an electrode placed in the soil or water covering the liner and to an electrode connected to earth ground. Because the geomembrane liner is an electrical insulator, current will flow only through leaks in the liner. This current produce localized anomalous areas of high current density near the leaks. Electrical measurements can locate these points of current flow through the leaks.
Depending upon site conditions and the client’s requirements, leaks as small as 1mm pinholes can be detected. Once located, holes can be readily repaired before liners are put into full service, whereas such damages might be permanently inaccessible once the system is in full operation.
The service provides customers engaged in environmental critical projects such as mining and petrochemical the assurance and proof that all environmental protection measures imposed by the national and local government have been complied with.
